What is Mobius SS7

Signaling System 7 (SS7) is an international telecommunication protocol standard that defines how the network elements in a public switched telephone network (PSTN) exchange information and control signals. Nodes in an SS7 network are called signaling points. 

SS7 represents a set of protocols allowing phone networks to exchange the information needed for passing calls and text messages between each other and to ensure correct billing. It also allows users on one network to roam on another, such as when traveling in a foreign country. 

SS7 was introduced in 1975. During the early 1990s, the SS7-based software systems were just coming into wide use. Today it is considered outdated, nevertheless carriers still use this technology as a backup in their networks.

Mobius SS7 is designed for Mobile Services consumption. Its SS7 stack enables any apps to communicate with legacy SS7 communications equipment by managing signaling traffic. 

Java-based SS7 (jSS7) provides a highly scalable software solution that implements M3UA, SCCP, TCAP, CAMEL, MAP, ISUP, INAP protocols for dedicated equipment (Dialogic) and M3UA (SIGTRAN) over IP. Can be employed as a part of TAS based on JainSlee specification or as a stand-alone solution.

Open-Source Java 

Mobius jSS7 is the Open-Source Java based implementation of the SS7 protocol stack. It includes modules for supporting the most used and important parts of an SS7 network. 

Plain and strict 

Mobius SS7 strictly adheres to the standards and specifications defined by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) 

API-Flexible 

Mobius SS7 provides developers with a flexible API that hides the lower layer details (legacy SS7 links or SIGTRAN) and therefore makes it simple and easy to develop SS7 applications. This makes it much easier to migrate your applications from analog or digital TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) hardware to internet protocol (IP) based solutions for M3UA. 

OS Variability 

For IP based M3UA deployments, jSS7 can be installed on any operating system that includes a SCTP (Stream Control Transmission Protocol) library. These include Linux and Windows Server. 

For legacy based TDM or digital deployments, jSS7 supports TDM hardware offered by Dialogic. Native libraries for the supported hardware adapters are available for Linux and Windows Server. 

Scalability and resilience 

The jSS7 stack supports both active and standby failover. These can be in servers that are either local or geographically distributed. The solution also supports auto-scaling and automated reporting for events and alarms, and health status for all nodes in a jSS7 cluster. Mobius jSS7 is part of a complete telecom core and forms the basis of a next generation, API driven and WebRTC-enabled service provider or enterprise solution. 

High-available System  

Designed to avoid loss of service by reducing and managing failures as well as minimizing planned downtime.  

Multiple programming language support 

When Mobius SS7 is employed in standalone mode, it is up to you to decide what programming language is used for developing your application as long as the result adheres all other standards. 

Monitoring and Management Tools Integration 

Mobius SS7 supports built-in integration with monitoring and management tools like Graylog and Datalog.
