The SS7 signaling network is a logical overlay network that operates independently of the bearer network. While bearer circuits carry user traffic (voice or data), the signaling plane is composed of:
- Signaling Points (SPs)
- Signaling Links
- Linksets
- Signaling Transfer Points (STPs)
